Women and Fields with Izere Antoine

Rwandan-based artist, Izere Antoine, creates paintings that centre women in quiet, open landscapes. Serene women are standing still in the middle of rural fields, surrounded by crops, flowers, soil, and soft natural colour. The scenes feel peaceful but full of strength.

What makes these works beautiful is the way Antoine connects women to land, labour, and history. His figures are often painted with rich, thick layers of oil, giving each of them depth. As worlds shape around them, each woman remains calm, steady and steadfast.
