Rooms and Dreams with Ian Mwesiga

Ugandan artist, Ian Mwesiga, reveals paintings that pull you into quiet scenes in dreams. His paintings usually show Black figures in carefully arranged rooms or inside landscapes that first seem ordinary, until you notice that something, somewhere isn’t quite right.

Ian’s work feels intentional because there are little clues everywhere. Some are more obvious - like a ladder descending into a forest. Others are more subtle, like thick trees implanted into concrete apartment walls. With every gaze, you wonder what is happening.
