A Sea with Theophilus Adewuyi
Nigerian artist, Theophilus Adewuyi, has the most striking portraiture…with a twist. Theophilus uses oil paint in striking indigo (a nod to his Yoruba traditions), reds, and pinks to spotlight a character in a sea of other people.
His portraits show that even though everyone might be surrounded by people, they are still their own person, in their own space. He reminds us that crowds are made up of individuals, each with their own experiences, cultures, personalities, quirks, and biases.
