Politics and Play by Richard Mudariki

Zimbabwean artist, Richard Mudariki, creates sharp, witty, paintings about society. His creations are full of imagery and satire - each one has much to unpack.

Richard often uses his creations to dig deeper into life in Zimbabwe, South Africa, and the African content as a whole. He depicts greed, adultery, lost identity, and survival in colourful ways, using his canvas as a clever storyboard.

His paintings make you look, then look again because you were sure to have missed something the first time. At first, his work seems playful and funny, but slowly the satire becomes evident and the meaning starts to open up.

Richard’s art remind us that artists have a critical role to play in talking about everyday life, politics and the lengths we go to survive.
