Black Culture with Jess Owens-Young
American artist, Jess Owens-Young, celebrates the past and present struggles of Black Americans. Her art explores what it means to be Black - from building a community at a time when even movement was restricted, to thriving in spite of strive, even now in more modern times.
Jess uses watercolours and acrylic paint on paper in a beautiful merger of painting and paper collaging. Her subjects are distinctly characterised by their thick facial features - another celebration of the Black narrative.
