A Celebration of Women by Mikey Oshai
Mikey Oshai is a Nigerian photographer, based in Lagos, who uses his creative voice and works to showcase issues about society, about health, consciousness, and much more. Mikey has shared that is art is more than just a creative outlet, but the voice he uses to speak up.
In true keeping with this, the photographer went viral when he released a beautiful series to celebrate international women’s day. The series depicted three middle-aged Nigerian women in elaborate gear reminiscent of the ‘good old days’ but still with a modern twist. Their geles (headgear) stood out large and bold, in colors that showed confidence; that they were not afraid to stand out. They were adorned in bold golden jewelry that alluded to their self-worth. And the three of them stood in solidarity of each other as the took a journey in a seemingly barren wasteland.
