Women and Khanga by Safara
Kenyan digital artist, Safara Wanjagi, celebrates the fabric, spiritually and culturally, of East Africa. Her Khanga by Safara series is a beautiful collage centered on vintage photographs of East African women across different tribes. Each portrait is a study in cultural pride and an ode to the rich past that has shaped the continent.
Surrounding each woman is Safara’s rendition of nature - from vibrant blue and purple flowers to seas of brown sand. And framing all of this, is another nod to cultural pride - the Khanga fabric in all its colorful and collage-styled glory. We are further blessed by East African proverbs assigned to each digital collage, giving us beauty and wisdom in one.
