Melanin vibes by Aislinn Finnegan

In a world were only Western ideals of beauty are paramount, we need all the discussion, advocacy and showcases about Black Beauty that we can get. Zambian-Irish artist, Aislinn Finnegan, continues to contribute to this discourse through her beautiful creations.

She uses her intricate portraiture to celebrate Black beauty and culture in a way that you can’t deny. Each portrait features hyper-melanated women sporting distinct African hairstyles that speak to their identity and culture. Many also adorn some form of traditional wear or jewelry, further emphasizing that there is a place for Black culture in any mainstream society.

We love each piece; see some of our favorites from her recent creations.
